Jesus came to heal the whole person, body and soul.
Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. - Isaiah 41:10
Pastoral Care for Healthcare Facilities encompasses the pastoral care of the faithful in hospitals, hospice, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, group homes and those cared for at home. This ministry includes the care of those Catholics of all ages who are acutely ill, those who live with chronic illness, those who are weakened due to old age, and those who cannot care for themselves.
Due to the continuing presence of the Covid 19 virus, all healthcare facilities have instituted their own visitation policies in compliance with guidelines from the RI Department of Health. These policies are for the health and safety of patients/residents and staff. Visitation policies apply to clergy and volunteers ministering in the facility, as well as family members. Please be aware that requests for pastoral care must comply with these regulations. Thank you.
If you or a family member are hospitalized, it is important to let hospital staff know that you are Catholic and would like to see a priest or receive sacraments while hospitalized.
Most hospitals in the Diocese of Providence have Departments/Offices of Pastoral Care. These Offices are usually headed by a Multifaith Chaplain who works with Catholic priests to meet the needs of Catholic patients.
The Chaplain’s Office can call a priest for the Anointing of the Sick or make a request for a visit by a priest.
If you would like to be visited by your parish priest just make a request to your local parish for a visit.
Below is a listing of the 15 Hospitals in the Diocese of Providence. If a Catholic Priest or Deacon is assigned to the hospital the name and contact information for the Priest or Deacon is listed. For many hospitals there is no assigned priest/deacon. For these hospitals, ministry is provided by a team of local pastors/priests who share the responsibility for coverage on a monthly rotation.
