From Bishop Tobin: Prayer for Inauguration Day

As our Nation prepares to mark the Inauguration of a new President, I invite all the members of the Catholic Church in Providence to pray this week, and especially on Friday, for our Nation and its new leaders. If we must protest, let us protest peacefully. But most of all, by attending Holy Mass, or visiting our churches, and in moments of personal silence, let us pray for God’s assistance.

Let us pray:

“Almighty God, we ask that you grant abundant wisdom, courage and compassion to those chosen to lead us. May they humble themselves in your sight and recognize that all authority comes from you alone. May their service be directed to promoting the common good, protecting the weak and vulnerable, and securing peace and justice in our land and throughout the world.

We pray that you will also bestow unity, peace and harmony to all the people of our Nation. Remove from us all fear and loathing, and let us work together, with mutual respect, for life and liberty, and for peace and justice for all of your children. This we ask through Christ, our Lord. Amen.”
