(PROVIDENCE, R.I.) – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has announced that the National Grid Foundation has made a major gift donation for its ‘Keep the Heat On’ heating assistance program. Edward H. White, Jr., Executive Director of the Foundation presented a $100,000 check to Bishop Thomas J. Tobin today at the Chancery Offices.
The donation is the sixth major gift that the heating assistance program has accepted from the Foundation.
“I am so very grateful to the National Grid Foundation for another wonderful donation to the ‘Keep the Heat On’ program,” said Bishop Tobin. “I hope that this generous gift will inspire other members of our community to continue their support of this vital program.”
“We are pleased to again be able to help our neighbors by supporting Keep the Heat On,” said Ed White. “For the sixth year in a row, this partnership helps connect people with emergency heating assistance when they need it most. We are thrilled to team up with the Diocese of Providence and be part of a program that helps so many.”
‘Keep the Heat On’ has raised more than $3.06 million to help 13,800 families and individuals in Rhode Island with heating assistance since its inception in 2005. This winter the diocese assisted 708 households at a cost of more than $125,000 to help families and individuals stay warm.
The National Grid Foundation has provided a total of $565,000 over the last five years to the heating assistance program. The NGF was created to enhance the quality of life across its grant making territory. Its objective is based on the principle that giving people the tools to build hope is an essential ingredient in the development of individuals, families and communities.
