During this extreme heat, the Diocese of Providence's Emmanuel House will remain open today through 4 p.m. as a cooling center. Anyone can walk in to the center at 239 Public Street in Providence to escape the heat or receive bottled water.
A CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL SUPPORTED MINISTRY: Despite their already difficult circumstances, guests of the diocesan Emmanuel House men’s homeless shelter are taking an active role to help ensure that they and the staff who serve them have the gear they need to help protect all from the spread of the novel coronavirus.
A Catholic Charity Appeal supported ministry, Emmanuel House has provided a safe place each night for single men to stay during the year in addition to other services such as addiction recovery, employment resources and much more since 2010.
On Thanksgiving, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin visited the diocesan Emmanuel House shelter to say a blessing over the meal and to spend time with the guests and volunteers.
